The police profession takes an immense toll on the brave men and women who choose it. As part of the Casper Police Department’s efforts to create a comprehensive support program for all employees, the need for a chaplaincy program was identified.
The team of volunteer chaplains are part of the Casper Police Department family. They spend time with officers and professional staff on the job to build personal relationships and better understand what employees face on a day-to-day basis. The chaplains also rotate through an on-call schedule that allows the Department to call upon them during times of crisis, whether due to a critical police incident or an individual Department member in need.
As of spring 2022, the program is still in its infancy. The Department is currently looking for qualified individuals to serve as part of the Casper Police Department Chaplaincy Program. To qualify, an individual must have served or be currently serving a spiritual congregation, pass a background check, live in the area of Casper, Wyoming, and be able to meet the requirement of eight hours a month of volunteer time plus one week every two months of on-call status.
