Casper Police Bring Peaceful End to Early Morning Standoff

Around 2:45am this morning, December 29, 2021, Casper Police Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of East 5th Street and South Jefferson Street in Casper.

The vehicle, a 2012 Ford Flatbed Truck, pulling a camper, attempted to elude officers. Officers pursued the vehicle for several minutes before disengaging as the vehicle left Casper and entered Evansville.

At that time, the Evansville Police Department initiated a pursuit of the vehicle, which ultimately ended back in Casper. The vehicle crashed and overturned in the area of the 2300 block of East Yellowstone Highway.

The two occupants of the vehicle, one adult male and one adult female, remained inside following the crash.

When Evansville Police Officers attempted to approach the vehicle, they heard gunshots coming from inside.

A perimeter was quickly set up to ensure the safety of the public. Additional law enforcement resources from the Casper Police Department, Evansville Police Department, Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol responded.

Due to the dangerous and rapidly evolving nature of the situation, the Natrona County Special Response Team was activated and responded to the scene.

Officers braced single-digit wind chills as they remained outside, securing the area and negotiating with the individuals inside the vehicle. Ultimately, around 7:00am, the individuals were safely taken into custody and were immediately transported to the hospital for treatment.

Both individuals sustained nonlife-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and are currently being interviewed by the Casper Police Department.

This investigation is active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The Casper Police Department would like to thank the Evansville Police Department, Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and Wyoming Medical Center for their assistance in this case.

The Casper Police Department is dedicated to the protection and safety of our community through the highest standards of professionalism in police services.
