Casper Police Investigating Shots Fired Incidents

The Casper Police Department is investigating two separate shots fired incidents that occurred in the evening hours of July 15th and early morning hours of July 16th.

Around 6:30pm on Thursday, July 15th, 2021, Casper Police Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of the 2500 block of South Jefferson. Initial reports stated at least two involved parties had fired weapons at each other. Multiple officers immediately responded.

Officers remained on scene for nearly eight hours investigating. At this point in the investigation, no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident. While on scene, officers spoke with multiple witnesses. Officers have identified several persons of interest as it relates to the incident and are continuing an active investigation.

While officers were completing the on-scene investigation on South Jefferson, additional officers responded to separate reports of shots fired in the area of South Walsh Drive and Swanton Avenue in Casper around 1:45am. This new incident is not believed to be connected or related to the incident on the evening of July 15th on South Jefferson.

Reports stated they heard several gunshots and a car speeding away from the area. Officers quickly responded to the area and heard several more gunshots before witnessing a truck leave the area at a high rate of speed. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle. Firearms found on the individuals had evidence to indicate both had recently been fired. Officers arrested both the driver and passenger of the vehicle for recommended charges of reckless endangering with a firearm. The driver was also arrested for driving under the influence.

At this time, no injuries have been reported as a result of this incident. Suspects reported to officers that they began shooting in the downtown area, before making their way to the area of South Walsh Drive and Swanton Avenue. The Casper Police Department encourages residents and business owners in these areas to check their property for damage as it relates to this incident.
