Casper Police Native Promotes to Lieutenant

The Casper Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Daniel Dundas to the rank of Lieutenant.

The promotion will take effect after the formal ceremony, scheduled for Monday, August 19th, 2019 in City Hall at 8:30 am.

“These Lieutenant candidates were subject to perhaps the most difficult assessment and rigorous process in the history of the Casper Police Department,” said Casper Police Chief Keith McPheeters. “It is with great pride that we promote Sergeant Dundas to the rank of Lieutenant based off of his dedicated and selfless service to the Casper community for over a decade.”

“I feel both honored and humbled by this promotion,” said Casper Police Lieutenant Dundas. “I look forward to continuing to protect and serve my hometown in a new capacity.”

Lieutenant Dundas was born in Casper, Wyoming. A graduate of Natrona County High School, Dundas attended the University of Wyoming on a full-ride academic scholarship and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology.

He began his career as a Casper Police Officer in 2008. Lieutenant Dundas graduated from the police academy with awards for the highest fitness and highest academic level in the class. In the Spring of 2019, he graduated from Northwestern University’s School for Police Staff and Command.

Lieutenant Dundas has been awarded seven Certificates of Commendation, one Letter of Merit, the Life-Saving Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Police Service Cross with Combat Distinction and two Unit Commendation Awards. He was selected as the 2011 Officer of the Year as well as the 2015 Sergeant of the Year.

Since starting his career with the Casper Police Department, Lieutenant Dundas has:
• Responded to 10,859 calls for service
• Conducted 2,147 traffic stops
• Wrote 136 search warrants
• Filed 11 federal cases
• Made 136 drug arrests via citation
• And made an additional 1,866 arrests

Thus far in his career, Lieutenant Dundas has served as a:

• Fitness Monitor/Coordinator
• Field Training Officer/Police Training Officer
• Mobile Field Force Officer
• Problem-Oriented Response Team Officer
• Detective
• Background Investigator
• Less Lethal Instructor
• Operations Support Team Detective
• Patrol Sergeant
• Operations Support Team Sergeant
• Vice Operations Subject Matter Expert
• Active Shooter Training Instructor 
• Officer Involved Shooting Instructor
• Public Information Officer

When he isn’t serving as a police officer, Lieutenant Dundas says he enjoys coaching his son’s sports teams, spending time on Casper Mountain, gaming and “making ridiculous Facebook videos about people with warrants.”
